For months, this young family had been living out of motels, moving room to room, doing their best to stay hopeful in the face of uncertainty. Their biggest concern was their infant son, who suffers from Stridor syndrome,a condition that makes breathing difficult and demands a clean, stable environment. Motel life was anything but.

The pandemic hit them hard. The mother lost her job due to COVID-related layoffs, making it nearly impossible to secure housing. Despite tireless efforts, financial roadblocks kept standing in their way – until now.

Just yesterday, we had the privilege of telling this family they were approved for housing assistance. The news brought tears and a sense of relief. Now, they finally have a safe home where their son can breathe easier, and their family can begin again.

Joseph’s Well had the privilege to help in the fight against childhood hunger by supporting the incredible efforts of No Kid Hungry. According to recent estimates, nearly 14 million children in the United States live in homes considered “food insecure.” While that term might sound mild, it reflects a harsh truth – many families don’t always have enough food to keep everyone healthy, leaving children at real risk of going hungry.

For over a decade, the number of hungry children had been steadily declining, until the COVID-19 pandemic reversed much of that progress. Today, organizations like No Kid Hungry are working tirelessly to repair that damage. Thanks to compassionate donors like Joseph’s Well, that recovery is beginning to take shape.

Hunger most often affects children in low-income households. No Kid Hungry is working to ensure these children have access to meals at school, during the summer, and at home, so they can grow up healthy and strong.

Though he remains in the ICU, his recovery has been nothing short of miraculous.
